A point of interest on this map is the demarcation of the border between Canada and the United States through Lake Superior. This line was subject to much dispute until the signing of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1843. Ironically, the line drawn on this map eleven years earlier shows the border as it was settled in the Treaty and indeed as it is today.
