Attractive map of Malta and Gozo published in the single German edition of Sanson's quarto atlas.
This map was originally issued in 1656 in Sanson's influential quarto edition of his atlas. It was then present, without substantial change, throughout the further eleven issues of the work until the early 18th century.
This particular example is unusual as it was issued in the only German edition of the work issued by Johann Zunner in 1679. This edition can be distinguished by the use of Latin in the title cartouche as opposed to French.
