Attractive map of Chile as it was under Spanish rule in the 17th century. The map covers from Chiloe in the south to Punto Copiapo in the north.
As with most of these early maps of the regional South America, the map is sourced from Johannes de Laet's important work on the New World.
This particular example is unusual as it was issued in the only German edition of the work issued by Johann Zunner in 1679. This edition can be distinguished by the use of Latin in the title cartouche as opposed to French.
