Italian variant plan of San Salvador in Bahia, Brazil, at this time also capital of the Portuguese colony.
This beautiful plan, together with its grand panorama on its upper border, is based on Bellin's engraving issued in Abbee Prevost's "Histoires des Voyages." It is difficult to track down what sources Bellin used for this map, however, San Salvador was the capital of colonial Brazil at this time and one of the great international ports of the Atlantic. The detailed numbered and lettered keys on both panorama and map suggest a degree of accuracy associated with a long and thorough surveys.
This Italian variant of appeared in the Gazettiere Americano, an Italian translation of the American Gazetteer. [SAM3559]
