Petrus Bertius
11 x 15 cm
This miniature map is one of the earliest maps available of southern Africa. It is a reduced version of the southern part of Jodocus Hondius' map of the continent first issued in 1606. It covers the area from Angola on the west coast and Mozambique on the east coast to the Cape, and reflects early Dutch discoveries of the region reported by the Dutch East India Company.
Coloured. Latin text on verso. [AFR6436]
