An elegant French map of China divided into its provinces. This map is based on Jean Baptiste Du Halde's important and celebrated map of China, first published in 1735.
In turn, Du Halde's map is compiled from the reports of the Jesuit mission present in the court of the Kangxi Emperor in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Le Rouge, a trained surveyor and military engineer has added his own interpretation onto the map as well as a discreet but elaborate cartouche on the lower right.
