This map shows the Balkans and Turkey at its westernmost extremity, at this point still the Ottoman Empire and stretches through the Levant, Iran, the Arabian Peninsula, Afghanistan, Pakistan, past the Indian sub-continent and into modern Myanmar.
The main purpose of this map is to show the developing political situations in these countries, including the new provinces in India and the Turkish dominion of the Kingdom of Hejaz. It also shows the proximity of the other great power in the north of this region, Russia, which had just embarked on its latest attack on the Ottoman Empire in 1828-9 which ultimately resulted in establishing the independence of Greece.
Finally, the map also marks the highly developed and ancient system of trade routes throughout the region. Original hand colour. Folded. [MEAST4788]
