Georg Bauerkeller
67 x 113 cm
The mapmaker, Georg Bauerkeller, invented a new method for creating 3-dimensional relief maps through a combination of embossing and colour printing, a technique known as 'Geomontography'. Many of Bauerkeller's maps were exhibited at the Paris World Fair of 1839, though this map of London was not issued until 1841. Bauerkeller's technique was never patented and would later be adapted to produce maps for the blind.
