Later re-issue of Moniot's plan of Singapore first issued in 1862. The map portrays the development of the city in the period as well as major thoroughfares and public buildings
This is a mid-twentieth century issue of a plan first published by Jules Moniot in 1862. The bulk of the plan is still based on the Jackson Plan conceived by Sir Stamford Raffles and Lieut. Philip Jackson in the early 1820s, but it shows several advances, including the establishment of “1st Class Streets”, several public buildings, a racecourse and the Esplanade.
Moniot was the first Surveyor General of Singapore and as well as several maps of the Straits Settlements, he was also responsible for detailed surveys of Prince of Wales Island, now Pulo Penang.
This later issue is most likely to have been published in a manual tracing the history of the development of Singapore City.
