Very nice example of Merian's map of Burgundy, France. Derived and reduced from Blaeu's map of the same region.
This map was issued in Merian's great work, the "Neuwe Archontologia Cosmica", a geographical description of all the kingdoms in the world. The text was written by Johann Ludwig Gottfried while the maps, views and panoramas were provided by Matthaus Merian the Elder. The work was highly influential and went through numerous editions, many of the posthumous.
