A sketch map of Punjab, or the land of five rivers, including parts of modern-day India and Pakistan. British administrative divisions and districts are outlined and numbered according to an index in the upper-left corner. This map was published in 1855, the year of the first British census in Punjab. It is also the same year that the Punjab Railway was established, though no railways are yet marked on this map. Roads are distinguished according to their size, quality, and importance.
