Miniature map of the Chesapeake Bay, called Virginia here but encompassing both Maryland and Virginia in modern terms.
This small miniature is one of the earliest derivatives of Augustine Herrmann's landmark map of the region which not only revised and updated the geography but also changed the orientation of the map. It shows north at the top of the sheet, rather than previous maps of the Bay which usually show north to the right of the sheet. [USA9875]
