Birds-eye city plan of Pisa within the city walls. Shows important structures such as gardens, temples, the basilica, and churches, including a numbered key in the top right corner. The famous leaning tower is numbered "3". The River Arno flows though the centre of the city.
This plan was first issued by Mattheo Florimi from a drawing by Achille Soli, a draughtsman who worked with several of the Italian map makers identified with the "Lafreri School" c.1603. This was the first printed plan of the city.
A further issue of the map above has been attributed to Orlandi c.1607.
Merian has reduced the plan and adapted it for his own publication, the "Archontologia Cosmica".
