Johnston was a highly influential figure in the administration of British Colonial Africa. He saw long and varied service on behalf of the British Administration in Africa and, as with many of his contemporaries, also became a noted explorer, botanist, artist and linguist. Throughout his career, he published forty books on the nature, geology and anthropology of Africa.
This map was compiled just after he finished his service as High Commissioner in the Uganda Protectorate in 1901. Original colour. [AFR6448]
