British archaeologist, explorer, and colonial administrator. Maudslay is now known as the father of Mesoamerican archaeology. This map was drawn to illustrate a paper by Maudslay in the Proceedings of the Royal Geographical Society in which he summarised his visit to Copan. He was one of the first archaeologists to employ photography and plaster casts to capture a more complete, 3-dimensional record of a historical site. Printed colour. [WIND4403]
