As well as showing the basins of rivers such as the Ganges, the Indus, the Brahmaputra and the Irrawaddy, the map also shows the irrigation works which had been established in northern India. These include the Upper Ganges Canals, the Sutlej Canals and the Bardoar Canals now renamed the Indira Gandhi Canal.
This map was published as part of Stanford’s Indian Atlas sourced from maps in British Parliamentary Papers commissioned by the British government to show the infrastructure as well as the physical, geological and ethnic features of the land.
