Parker Edwards
45.5 x 91.5 cm
Large pictorial
map of Hawaii issued to promote the Dole Pineapple Company. Original colour.
This map is
drawn very much in the style which can be traced back to Macdonald Gill’s
Wonderground map of London and which had been adopted by a collection of artists
around the world.
The map
features caricatures symbolizing famous sites and activities available on the
islands. The lower border shows a collection of tropical fish common to the islands
while the upper border is adorned by a collection of tropical flowers.
The map was
drawn by the artist Parker Edwards for the Hawaiian Pineapple Company formed by
industrialist James Dole. It was printed in San Francisco. Original colour. [USA9776]
