Charming miniature map of East Africa, showing a theorized course of the Nile and the Empire of Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia). Little of this region was known to Europeans at the time, so the interior detail is largely second-hand or entirely fictional. East Africa is here divided between Zanguebar (Zanzibar), the coastal region, and Abyssinia, a large empire in the interior.
