The pictorial aspect leans on the comedic but it emphasizes the pioneering past of the region, particularly in the cowboy era. The reverse of the map bears a far more orthodox plan of Phoenix just after World War II. The whole project was an advertisement for the Valley National Bank. That institution existed until 1992 until it was purchased by Bank One which in turn became part of JP Morgan Chase.
