Separately issued map of the Korean Peninsula published a few months before the declaration of the Korean Empire.
This rare separately issued map of Korea was published in Japan during a period of great turmoil in the Peninsula. The country was still reeling from the assassination of the Empress in 1894 and emboldened by Russian support, the Emperor of Korea would declare the country an Empire in October of 1897. The Empire would last only ten years and shortly after, in 1910, the country became a Japanese colony.
