John Bartholomew & Co.
81 x 69 cm
This 1892 folding geological map of Scotland was designed by John Bartholomew & Co., reduced from the Ordnance and Geological Surveys directed by Sir Archibald Geikie. It highlights the many geological materials present in Scotland, indicated on the map as brightly coloured regions. A colour key and additional geological information is included in the bottom left of the map. Colours are organised into geological eras with detailed labels. Colour-coded landscape views showing various local land formations border the map on the top and sides.
John Bartholomew was a Scottish cartographer best known for his atlases of the Scotland, England and Wales, Meteorology, India, and the Holy Land. He was a founding member of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and held the title of Cartographer to H.M. King George V.
