John Cary
53 x 41 cm
This attractive map of Wiltshire was included in Cary's re-issue of William Camden's venerable work "Britannia" which was first issued in 1586. This was an Elizabethan survey of England and Wales originally without maps. In 1607, it included a full set of English county maps based on Christopher Saxton and its influence and popularity was such that several different map makers and publishers continued to issue this work. In this edition, John Stockdale was the publisher, Richard Gough was the Latin translator and John Cary provided the maps.
