John Cary
41 x 54 cm
This attractive map of Berkshire was included in Cary's re-issue of William Camden's venerable work "Britannia" which was first published in 1586. This was an Elizabethan survey of England and Wales originally without maps. In 1607, it was augmented with a full set of English county maps based on Christopher Saxton and its influence and popularity grew to such an extent that several different map makers and publishers continued to issue this work. In this edition, John Stockdale was the publisher, Richard Gough was the translator and John Cary provided the maps. Coloured. [BERKS382]
