Early copper-engraved map of England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland and with an inset map of Orkney. The map is charmingly embellished with a decorative title cartouche, heraldry and a compass rose.
This map was published in Merian's "Archontologia Cosmica" and is a reduced version of Blaeu's map of the British Isles issued in Amsterdam in 1631. Merian has changed the decoration though, with a new design on the cartouche and adding the presence of a royal coat of arms on the right.
