City plan of Casablanca under French colonial rule. Shows schools, hospitals, palaces, and governmental buildings. Includes the present-day Arab League park (formerly named Parc Lyautey after French colonial administrator Hubert Lyautey) under development by colonial architect Albert Laprade under the supervision of Casablanca's urban planner, Henri Prost.
The map also includes plans for the "ville indigène" or the "indigenous city" (present-day Habous), the French recreation of a traditional medina after the bombardment of Casablanca in 1907. Designed by Prost with neo-Moorish architecture as a core facet, including a designated palace for the Sultan, it aimed to foster Orientalist appeal for tourists and house the large influx of North African migrants.
