Persia Sive Sophorum Regnum
One of the most attractive maps of Persia published in the 17th century, here in its German version.
This map is derived from Willem and Joan Blaeu's map of Persia first issued in 1634. They in turn relied heavily on the maps of Mercator and Ortelius for this shape and information on the country.
Merian reduced and adapted it for his "Archontologia Cosmica" with some slight changes and fundamentally the same information. The fine cartouche on the lower left is believed to be an image of Shah Abbas the Great with two of his ceremonial guardsmen.
