Herman Moll
25 x 18 cm
A map of Brazil and Uruguay with detailed naming along the coast, but only speculative detail about the interior. Mountains and forested areas are drawn pictorially. Includes present-day Pantanal, an area of flooded grasslands, which was historically often mistaken for a lake (shown here as Lake Xarayes). The state of Piaui and its environs are shown here as Tapuyer's Land (ie. land of the Tarairiu people) and the state of Amazonas (Land of ye Amazones) is outside of the border of Brasil.
Coloured. [SAM3635]
