Rare map of India showing the agencies established to collect the salt tax, as well as the Northwest Frontier customs line, an enormous barrier constructed to prevent the smuggling of salt out of Bengal. The customs line stretched for thousands of miles and was manned by over 12,000 customs agents. It was largely composed of a dense, thorny hedge, but also had sections which were walled or fenced.

Issued in a report to Parliament published shortly before the Indian Mutiny and the British government's takeover of the East India Company's monopoly in India. As this map was part of a Parliamentary Report, it was never published commercially in this form, making it quite rare.
