Charles Owens
42 x 96 cm
Owens's iconic pictorial map of California has become one of the best known promotional maps of the State. Printed in spot colour, with a deep green sea which serves to contrast with the detail on the land emphasising the bounty and beauty of the state. As well as the glamorous parts such as Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Berkeley, the map also shows the location of the oil fields, as well as the more natural attractions such as the Lone Pine, Yosemite and the State Redwood Park. The upper border, again highlighted in dark green, bears scenes and important figures from the history of the state.
A small, but interesting, note on the back of the map states that while California is open and welcoming to tourists, those seeking work should stay away until the economy improves.
