Large and clear chart of the Parry Archipelago, now renamed the Queen Elizabeth Islands, in the Arctic Sea north of Canada.
The Parry Archipelago was named after the explorer Sir William Parry who reached the islands in 1819. They remained under that name until 1953, when they were renamed after Queen Elizabeth II in celebration of her ascent as Queen of Canada. The southern section of the islands remain known as the Parry Archipelago.
This chart is based on surveys by the British Navy up to 1855, a reference to the expedition to the region under Edward Belcher 1852-4. The information was compiled and edited by Augustus Petermann.
