The illustrator of this piece is Thomas Theodor Heine, a German cartoonist and illustrator who helped to found the satirical magazine Simplicissimus in 1896. His Jewish heritage and anti-Nazi politics made him a target of the Fascist right, and he was forced to flee Germany in 1933.
