Italian version of Condamine's famous map of the Amazon River made while he was a member of the French Geodesic Expedition to South America.
While mostly focusing on Brazil, the length of the Amazon ensures that this map also shows Dutch Guiana or Surinam as well as Peru.
Although Condamine is given as the main source on the title sequence of the map, it also bears a close resemblance to Jacques Nicholas Bellin's map of the Amazon present in the "Histoire Generale des Voyages". All three maps show the same design, with a large panel of text on the upper part detailing the original authorship of Condamine, but this Italian example adds several engraving flourishes, differentiating it from its more academic French counterparts. This is particularly the case with the title, which now appears to be printed on a pinned piece of cloth.
