21 x 30 cm
The Cape Verde Islands (Cabo Verde) and the west coast of Africa, including Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. The coast of West Africa dominates the right side of the map, brimming with geographical and political features. Many towns and ports are named, as are rivers, mountain ranges and wooded areas. Further inland this detail diminishes as European knowledge of Africa’s interior was extremely limited at this time.
From the rare Dutch edition of Sanson's pocket atlas, published in Amsterdam by Francois Halma. Vibrant original hand-colour. [AFR6327]
