Isaac Tirion
25.4 x 33 cm
Lovely example of Tirion's map of China and its surrounding lands, by this time under the sway of the Manchu court. The map was based on de l'Isle's map of the country although the clumsy depiction of the Kamchatka Peninsula on the north eastern coast suggests either hurried or verbal descriptions based on reports from the Northern Expeditions sponsored by Peter the Great. Tirion's peculiar curved depiction of the Korean Peninsula seems to be his own interpretation. A curious and beautiful map, expertly illuminated at the time.
