North America as it was known to Europeans at the time of the American Revolution. English territory is in pink, French in Green, and Spanish in yellow. Curiously, Zatta appears to support England's claims to northern Canada and the Pacific Coast, using the name 'Nouva Albione' for California, the name suggested by Sir Francis Drake during his circumnavigation. Much of the Pacific Northwest is entirely speculative, following French maps of the period, and perpetuating the myth of an easy Northwest Passage.

In typical Zatta style, the map is embellished with a large title cartouche depicting a natural scene. Though undated, the map does not acknowledge the independence of the United States, so it was likely engraved before 1783.

Despite this, a previous owner has added a faint date of 1785 in blue ink manuscript below the title on the cartouche. Original hand-colour. [AMER2437]
