Pierre Duval
11 x 13 cm
A miniature map of Crimea with adjacent parts of southern Ukraine and Russia. At the time of publication, Crimea was under the control of the Kingdom of Muscovy, but much of Ukraine belonged to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the region to the east of Crimea was part of the Kingdom of Circassia.
Published in Pierre Duval's Geographie Universelle, a pocket atlas composed largely of reduced versions of Nicolas Sanson's maps. Duval was Sanson's nephew and pupil, and he continued publishing Sanson maps long after his uncle's death, usually under his own imprint and with updates and modifications.
Original hand-colour. [RUS2712]
