A newspaper advert from the June 21, 1907 edition of The Times announcing the scheduled opening of the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway (the Hampstead Tube) the following day. Known colloquially as the Hampstead Tube, the CCE&HR connected Charing Cross to Golders Green and Highgate via two separate branches, with stops at Leicester Square, Camden Town, and Hampstead, amongst others.
Over 25 million passengers travelled on the Hampstead Tube in the first year of operation, but this still did not make the railway a commercial success. Starting in 1908, the railway was gradually amalgamated into the "Underground" group with combined branding, especially on Tube maps. It now forms part of the Northern Line.
