Description:
12-inch German terrestrial globe sat upon a handsome bevelled black wooden pedestal with a polished brass half-meridian.
The globe's geography is slightly confused, but the division of Sakhalin between Japan and Russia dates it to after the Russo-Japanese War (1905) and the border between Siam (Thailand) and British Malaya (Malaysia) pre-dates 1909. As is often the case with globes, not all of the geography has been correctly updated. For example, Panama is not shown as independent of Colombia despite separating in 1903.
This map was published by successful and important Berlin-based globe and scientific intrument maker, Ernst Schotte & Co., established in 1855. As well as terrestrial and celestial globes, they produced orreries and tellurians.
