Star map of the constellations Aries, Taurus, Cetus, Andromeda and Pisces.
John Flamsteed (1646-1719) was an English astronomer and in 1676 the first Astronomer Royal at the newly built Royal Greenwich Observatory, under King Charles II. An important figure in astronomy, he is responsible for having observed and catalogued more than 3000 stars, as well as the motions of the Sun, Moon and planets.
This map was published in the 1779 edition of Jean Nicholas Fortin's "Atlas Célester de Flamsteed", which was first published posthumously by Flamsteed's widow in 1729.
