Pushmataha: Paramount
Chief of the Choctaw Nation and a brigadier general in the United States Army.
During the War of 1812 Pushmataha was commissioned as a
brigadier general in the United States Army. Having served as the Chief of the
Six Towns district he was elected as Paramount Chief of the Choctaw Nation in 1815 as which he served till his death
1824. Skilled in diplomacy, Pushmataha negotiated several land-cession treaties
with the United States and lead a delegation to Washington D.C. due to settlement
encroachment on deeded Choctaw lands in Arkansas.
Pushmataha died in Washington D.C. on the 24th
of December 1824 and was buried with full military honours in the Congressional
Cemetery
