Sir Archibald Alison
15 x 20 cm
This was a bloody though inconclusive engagement. Although the French were driven off by an Anglo-Spanish force under the command of General Beresford and General Joaquin Blake, the Siege of Badajoz was lifted a little later due a large French force approaching from the south.
Later analysis states that Beresford was a very good organiser but a poor general.
