James Wyld

The shape of the peninsula was taken from the much earlier maps originally published by the firm of Arrowsmith and based on the information compiled by Niebuhr. This accounts for the the relatively out of date delineation of the Gulf, lacking the Qatari Peninsula. Arrowsmith's map was first issued in 1817, before the new survey of the Gulf by the Bombay Marine.
However, Wyld has made some updates to the interior of the Peninsula, adding caravan routes, multiple oases along those routes together with many new place names particularly in the northern part.
