Although some of the infrastructure in the region is made apparent, particularly the railways and the political borders with nearby countries, the main point of emphasis is the population density within the administrative districts. The key to this density is keyed on the lower left. As can be seen on the map, the highest population density at this time is in Nyasaland, around the shore of Lake Nyasa.
In modern terms, the region of Southern Rhodesia corresponds approximately to Zimbabwe, Northern Rhodesia to Zambia and Nyasaland to Malawi.
