This is one of the most detailed surveys of the coast of New Guinea up to that point. The large island of New Britain was named by Dampier during this voyage. The long text panel on the lower centre speculates about the inhabitants and interior but simultaneously admits to a lack of knowledge about rest of the island. One of the points made there is that the interior is possibly the home to the descendants of one of the Ten Tribes of Israel which were captured by the Assyrians.
