Abraham Ortelius
38.1 x 50.8 cm
In the "Catalogum Auctorum", Ortelius mentions several sources for this map, including Gastaldi, Thomas Geminus, Vincentius Corsulensis and Henricus Gorchomius. The main source or contribution however, is Carolus Clusius' six sheet map of Spain published in 1571. Clusius in turn cross references Ortelius' map issued in 1570.
It is noted that this and his series of regional maps of Spain were the main sources for other cartographers until Henricus Hondius published his series of Spanish regional maps in the 1630s. He was closely followed by the maps issued by the Blaeu family.
