Frederick Courteney Selous' (1851-1917) map of Mashonaland and Manika in modern-day Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Selous was a famous explorer, soldier, and big game hunter whose exploits inspired the fictional character of Allan Quartermain. During the East Africa Campaign of WWI he led the 25th Royal Fusiliers (Frontiersmen), an unorthodox batallion composed of hunters, explorers, cowboys, and foreign legionaires. He was killed in Tanzania in 1917 by a German sniper. Printed colour. (SL) [AFR4622]
