A New & Accurate Map of Brasil. Divided into its Captainships

The coastline and interior of Brazil as they were known to the English in the mid-18th century. Large inset of Santa Catarina island, now the site of the city of Florianópolis. A paragraph in the lower-right corner explains Bowen's decision to removal the imaginary island of Ascension from this map (not to be confused with the real Ascension located near St. Helena in the South Atlantic) as Edmund Halley, the astronomer and navigator, has determined that it did not exist. Amusingly, the equally non-existent island of Trinidad can still be found on this map, located just above that very paragraph.
