Air France - 'Extreme Orient'

This is the rarer, small version of Boucher's stylised pictorial map of French Indochina advertising the routes of Air France to modern Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. A characteristic piece of local headwear is used as a medium to show a general map of the region.

Boucher was inspired by the Dutch Golden Age of mapmaking from the 17th century using multiple vignettes and illustrations within his maps but he also combined it with his own unique interpretation which resulted in a highly recognisable, distinctive style, which looks modern and contemporary even though Boucher himself died in 1971.
