Vintage tourist map of the Burgundy wine region in the Côte-d'Or department of eastern France. The map extends to show Sens in the north, Vichy, Villié -Morgon and Macon in the south, Nevers in the west, and Dijon, Fontaine-Française, Dôle, and Louhans in the east.

This graphic map uses icons to denote the location of landmarks of historical interest, ancient dwellings, castles, ruins, grottoes, and pilgrimage sites, as well as vineyards for both red and white wine varieties, airfields, and spas. A key to these icons sits in the lower left of the map. Major roads and rivers, and a sketch of the topography is marked across the map.

The map would have originally been presented as a folding pamphlet and was created by “Sofcar” for the Ministère des Travaux Publics, des Transports et du Tourisme [Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Tourism]. On the reverse of the map, there is a short history of Burgundy and five suggestive itineraries for those visiting the vineyards of the region, numbers one to five on the map:

2. The Morvan, its Valleys, Rivers and Monuments
3. A Literary Pilgrimage
4. A ramble along the quiet rivers and among cathedrals and castles
5. The heart of Burgundy

Each itinerary is peppered with inspiration for the traveler.
