One of the earliest available maps of the county of Wiltshire, based on the geography first surveyed by Christopher Saxton. North is to the left of the sheet.

This map was published in the first edition of Camden's "Britannia" illustrated with a full series of county maps. The "Britannia", a geo-historical compendium and the magnum opus of its creator, William Camden, was first issued in 1586. It went through several editions until 1607, when it was augmented with a full series of county maps based on the geographical surveys of Christopher Saxton produce 1573-9. These earlier maps were too large for Camden's work, hence the production of these reduced versions via two master engravers, William Kip and William Hole. 

The map of Wiltshire was engraved by William Kip whose name can be seen next to the scale on the lower left.
